Vanadevi is situated in the verdant valley of river Bandal. Once upon a time Doon valley was full of woods and streams, that’s why Sikh Guru Ram Rai ji Maharaj , later Britishers and in recent past Tibetan community has chosen Doon valley to make their home.
Bandal vally is last bastion where pure nature is to be found and not yet ruined by ever increasing pressure of modernization. During one of my trekking trips, deep in this pristine valley I found Vanadevi . She can’t be described through words although I tried to capture her beauty through lens and put some pictures to give an idea about the place.
We procure a great deal of our food from surrounding villages where grains, vegetables and spices are still cultivated by using organic compost. Pollution free environment and shortest possible supply chain direct from farm to kitchen ensure goodness and vitality of the ingredients.
Furthermore, our dishes are prepared according to local cuisine cooked on slow fire is healthy, tasty and full of distinctive earthy flavours.
Gluten/ Lactose free choices at meals and fresh juices and a selection of herbal teas are carefully introduced in our programmes.
We take help of Ayurvedic wisdom while choosing, preparing and serving our dishes. Ayurveda puts great emphasis on freshly prepared food and choice of food according to season and time of the day. Combination of different ingredients and their proportion are important too.
This knowledge helps us to provide best possible nourishment to our inhabitants. Special programme requires special food which is duly prepared according to the advice of Ayurvedic doctor present during the programme.
At Vanadevi our approach is holistic and we believe that every experience at vanadevi should be deeply fulfilling. Being blessed with unparallel natural beauty all the cottages are placed in a manner that every cottage overlooks hill stream and forest. One can sit and watch for hours everchanging colours of the forest while murmuring sound of hill stream soothes your soul.
Cottages are made of local stones using old Garhwal style, a time-consuming process but they blend seamlessly in the surroundings and provide a very effective isolation against the extreme weather conditions of mountains.
Cottages are spacious and tastefully decorated. Every cottage is fitted with a double or two single beds, sofa seats and coffee table, a writing table and chair, a mini fridge, a wardrobe, a luggage rack. Walls are adorned with paintings or limited addition high quality prints of master painters of impressionism era. A specious bathroom with all modern amenities completes the bill.
